4th of July in The Big Apple
A few weeks later I'm finally getting around to posting about our great trip to NYC for the 4th of July. Our flight to NY was pretty uneventful and ON TIME so that was a nice surprise. We didn't have a lot of time to waste once we got to Manhattan because we had tickets to a 1:00 Yankee Game against the Red Sox.
The trip up to Yankee Stadium on the subway, however, was pretty exciting to those of us who are star struck...and once again, as it was in January, our son Danny was the one to spot "the stars". I don't know if you ever watched General Hospital, or the weekly drama called Joan of Arcadia, or maybe saw the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but Amber Tamblyn was sitting about 3 feet away from me on the Uptown 4 train, big as life. She was holding hands with another actor (quite a bit older than her I might add) who stars in the television show Arrested Development, David Cross. I'll post pics of both in case you don't know who I'm talking about. Anyways they looked like two average joe's on the subway and my family convinced me not to bug them for autographs (darn), and I'd look stupid taking a picture of them, so I have to just savor the memory....
Once we got to the stadium we were pleasantly surprised to learn that Harish's company, Angelo Gordon, has a suite at the stadium and Harish was able to get four seats in there so we were treated like Royalty in a beautiful air-conditioned suite, with a fully staffed bar and buffet. We really felt very honored to have had this great experience. It was very hot and humid that day, however, and the weather forecast predicted rain.....and boy were they right! It started to rain during the 7th inning and they ended up calling a pretty long rain delay after awhile, so we never got to see the end of the game....oh well, all in all it was a great time.
Friday night we were very tired and ended up ordering in, then went back to the hotel for the night. Saturday we started out eating breakfast at our favorite breakfast spot, the Barking Dog...yum.
Then it was off to Soho to shop...we didn't buy much in Soho BUT we went to the most memorable chocolate shoppe ever; Vosges (see photos); have you ever tried chocolate with goji berries and pink himalyayan salt? Or how 'bout chocolate with ginger, wasabi & black sesame seeds? Unbelievable! Expensive? How does $7.50 a chocolate bar sound? But Sarah and Harish bought lots of treats that we sampled Saturday night for dessert and it was truly a fabulous way to end a great day!
After Soho Meghan and I went to Bloomingdales (we have champagne taste on a beer budget so we "just looked") and ended up buying work clothes for Meghan at H&M. That night we went to Blondies for a great dinner of wings etc. followed by our chocolate savoring experience.
Sunday came way too fast, and before you know it we were back at Laguardia airport waiting for our plane home .....boo hoo; another great weekend in NY flies by and we look forward to the next one!

Sounds like a great trip! I just shopped H&M in Chicago so I could bring a little somethin' home for my gals. I thought it was kinda weird considering we have H&M at Eastview Mall, where we normally go, but hey - this was 3 floors of H&M!
